Watching the car chase through Addison and Dallas this evening on local news came to a safe end. But watching the police apprehend the perpetrator I have to ask why police have to slam a surrendering suspect onto the ground. This seems to be excessive and unnecessary force.

I see this over and over on news coverage when a surrendering suspect or perpetrator surrenders. They put their hands on their head or get on their knees and they are still slammed to ground and pummeled by four or more officers.

Why don’t police just cuff the person being taken into custody when they have surrendered?

With that being said, I have a high level or respect for police officers for putting themselves at risk everyday to keep the peace.

What are your thoughts? Does it seem that police use excessive force in taking a suspect into custody when it is not need? Share your thoughts with our readers.
